According to the paper, a patient-specific template guide for cortical screw placement may be a promising solution to improve accuracy and safety. The goal of the publication is to evaluate the accuracy of cortical screw placement using the template guides.
The results show that MySpine MC was accurate enough for clinical application, confirming this technique as a potentially effective solution to achieve both correct screw insertion and a reduction of complications.
The publication reports a significant result: 99.5% of a total of 198 inserted screws are in the safe zone, showing that the perforation rate with MySpine MC is limited whereas it is up to 20% with the standard free hand technique.
According to the study, MySpine MC accuracy is also significantly reproducible among the spine levels, showing a mean deviation between the planned and the actual screw is about 0.6mm and 1.5° in the linear and angular shift, respectively.
