CASTEL SAN PIETRO, April 2, 2026 - Medacta Group SA (“Medacta” SIX: MOVE) today announces the expansion of its MyImplant platform from established shoulder applications to hip reconstruction, providing an innovative custom-fit solution developed to support surgeons in managing complex cases, particularly in situations where fixation may be challenging due to extensive bone loss.
MyImplant is built on Medacta's strong and long-standing expertise in 3D planning, additive manufacturing, and patient-matched solutions — a foundation developed over more than fifteen years through continuous innovation and real-world clinical application. Central to this ecosystem is Medacta's advanced 3D Metal technology and the MySolutions Personalized Ecosystem, which together enable precise anatomical restoration and optimized biomechanics. This depth of experience translates into implants designed to support long-term stability and, ultimately, to improve patient quality of life.
The new MyImplant solution for hip procedures was unveiled during the recent M.O.R.E. International Hip Symposium in Paris (March 12–13), an event that also celebrated more than 20 years of the Versafitcup and Quadra systems, supported by the AMIS surgical technique and HIGHCROSS polyethylene. This milestone reflects Medacta's long-standing commitment to advancing MIS Hip Replacement through continuous innovation in implants, minimally invasive techniques, advanced materials, and tailored education. It is this depth of experience, backed by strong clinical evidence and long-term outcomes, that underpins the development of MyImplant for complex acetabular reconstruction.
While MyImplant applications in shoulder surgery primarily focus on glenoid reconstruction, the new hip solution is intended to address complex acetabular reconstruction, further expanding the Medacta Hip Revision Platform and strengthening the company’s ability to support surgeons in managing high-complexity cases.
“In my experience, the advanced level of customization of MyImplant contributes to simplifying the management of complex acetabular defects in a relevant and effective manner”, said Dr. med. Alois Franz, Marien Kliniken Siegen, Germany.
Advanced software, combined with patient CT scans, enables precise preoperative planning and surgical simulation, allowing surgeons to analyze the patient’s anatomy in detail and plan the procedure before entering the operating room. This approach helps surgeons achieve the desired implant positioning, fit, and stability. The resulting design is translated into a 3D-printed monobloc customized implant, manufactured as a single titanium component, combined with a dedicated set of patient-matched instruments, including bone models, trial implant, and drilling guides.
“The ability to plan the procedure in detail and tailor the implant to the patient’s specific anatomy is a key advantage when addressing complex cases, enabling more precise reconstruction and increasing confidence in achieving stable, accurate results,” said Dr. Alexandre Lädermann, Hôpital de La Tour, Switzerland.
The implant is produced using 3D Metal, Medacta’s in-house additive manufacturing technology, engineered to replicate the natural porosity of bone, achieve intrinsic high friction, and provide a precise scratch-fit[1] with the surrounding bone. This porous structure is designed to facilitate integration between the implant and the native bone. Together with patient-specific screw configuration, customized trajectories, and positions that may reduce the need for intraoperative adjustments, 3D Metal contributes to improve primary stability.
Beyond the custom-fit implant itself, MyImplant provides surgeons with comprehensive support throughout the custom implant workflow. Medacta’s engineering team collaborates closely with surgeons during the design phase to incorporate clinical input and develop patient-matched implants and instruments tailored to each case.
“Working with the Medacta engineering team was a truly collaborative experience. The accuracy of the screw mapping, the implant fit, and the quality of communication throughout the process were remarkable. MyImplant represents a meaningful advancement in the management of major acetabular revision surgery,” added Wayne G. Paprosky, MD, Rush University Medical Center, USA.
Medacta continues to invest in medical education to support the adoption of innovative technologies such as MyImplant, through dedicated educational initiatives and scientific events including the international M.O.R.E. Symposia. Driven by a vision of continuous improvement through innovation, Medacta is committed to bringing state-of-the-art solutions to personalized orthopedic care — so that more patients facing complex surgical challenges can benefit from the most advanced treatments available.
