Social liability: Is the key to come out from the slump

Giornale del Popolo- newspaper of the Italian part of Switzerland - April 11 2009

“Which ethics in a free market?” is the question which gives rise to the discussion concerning the causes, effects and rebounds on the worldwide economics and to the current slump: Mr Siccardi opinion is, the financial industry should be monitored by the same process and regulations imposed today on the pharmaceutical industries, although the problem is not only linked to the low but also to values which regulate them. We need to accept the idea that the social responsibility is not in conflict with the profit.

In the speakers opinion it is wrong to throw away the current economics system, rather, everyone must learn to correct his own behavior: from managers to politicians, as well as the general public. Especially those people who have badly invested their earnings and now are regretting their endeavours and want to sometimes blame the media.

Mr Siccardi thinks that “it’s not the media’s fault if a person buys risky securities”.

In a period where it was OK to have a shot at the media or at least become angry with the “thieving government”, the author has to admit to the owner of Medacta International he has been a voice out of the chorus.

Speakers: Mr. Armando Massarenti (person responsible of the cultural supplement of “Il Sole 24 ore”)
Mr. Luca Crivelli (professor aggregate to the microeconomics and public economics institute of USI)
Mr. Fabrizio Zitiotti (professor at the economics research institute of the Zurich University)
Mr. Alberto Siccardi (businessman – President of Medacta International- Winner of the "Swiss Venture Club 2009" reward as the best businessman of the Italian part of Switzerland)
