FEATURES
Significantly lower temperature
Maximum polymerisation temperature* of Genta Mectacem® 3
74.3° C (i.e. 10 degrees lower than current standard cements)
*In vitro tests in compliance to ISO 5833: 1992 standards
Mectacem® comply to the EEC Guide Lines 93/42/CEE and to their different requirements for bone cements. The standard viscosity cements Mectacem® 1 and Genta Mectacem® 1 are for digital application while the low viscosity cements Mectacem® 3 and Genta Mectacem® 3 are for syringe use. The liquid component is sterilized by micro-filtration while the powder component is sterilized by radiation. A final sterilization is carried out by ethylene oxide gas sterilization.
Indications
Mectacem® bone cements are intended for the fixing of cemented prosthesis in arthroplasties. Genta Mectacem® are intended for a similar use when there is a possible risk of infection.
Contraindications
Mectacem® should not be used where there is hypersensivity to any of the components of the cement or to Gentamicin in the case of use of Genta Mectacem®.
Precautions for use
Operating theatre temperature affects polymerisation time. Low temperatures increase setting times.
